Governor JB Pritzker signing laws to protect first responders.

Governor JB Pritzker signed three bills Thursday to strengthen Scott’s Law to better protect first responders.

Scott’s Law was enhanced to clarify driver’s responsibility when entering an emergency zone, and allow courts to order community service and other penalties to those who violate the law.

The new legislation will also give first responders easier access to mental health services.

Governor JB Pritzker says first responders deserve this protection to keep them safe and healthy.

“Our first responders face intense physical and mental health challenges every single day on the job. Emergency professionals experience higher rates of depression and PTSD and suicide than the general population.”

The state is implementing a move over early warning taskforce to develop ideas for using technology to help drivers navigate emergency zones.
