To celebrate Black History Month, Comptroller Susana A. Mendoza hosted an event this morning recognizing five Chicago locals for their achievements and contributions to the community.

"Black History Month recognizes the contribution to our communities, state,
and country. Each February, we turn our attention to the impact Black Americans have made as inventors, educators, activists, scientists, and more, all while facing the very real struggle of inequality, racism, and injustice."

The event honored

Ed Coleman, Owner, and CEO of EAC Consulting,

Daniella Coffey, Owner of Chicago's St. Rest Number 2 Country Kitchen,

Dr. Phyllis P Hayes, the Assistant Vice Chancellor for External Engagement of UI Health,

Kay Page, the Trustee of the Village of Ridgewood,

Audra Wilson, President and CEO of the Shriver Center on Poverty and Law.
