In a recent speech, Illinois Senator Dick Durbin discussed President-elect Donald Trump's vision for the Department of Justice during his Administration.

Durbin said in his speech how then-President Trump used the DOJ to overturn the 2020 election results, as detailed in the Senate Judiciary Committee Subverting Justice Report.

Durbin continues to say how this is illustrated in Trump's attempt to use the Department of Justice in his legal favor.

"The president may set policy directives, but the Department of Justice is not his personal law firm. Civil servants have an independent duty to uphold the Constitution and the laws of the United States and cannot be forced to take illegal actions."

Durbin said this is demonstrated in Trump's nomination of former Congressman Matt Gaetz for Attorney General.

Gaetz has since withdrawn his name from consideration
