Members of the Illinois Freedom Caucus are condemning the House Bill 4144.
It allows police to seize firearms from anyone in the name of order of protection or red flag order and also includes ex parte orders meaning there will not be any prior notification or due process rights.In addition, they anticipate that the bill will face constitutional challenges.
In a news release, the caucus states Democrats could have chosen more productive and effective measures such as punishment and increasing penalties to address acts of violence instead of advancing a bill it calls unconstitutional.
