Governor JB Pritzker and Illinois State Police Director Brendan F. Kelly announced a partnership between the Illinois State Police and public Illinois Universities.
Governor Pritzker says the initiative will assist cadets in earning college credit after completing their trooper training.
"This program is a recognition of all that it takes to be a law enforcement officer. This program is an opportunity for Illinois State Police to develop their skills and advance their careers."
Kelly says the partnership aims to equip officers with the needed tools to strengthen the state's police force.
"ISP prepares officers for the complex role of law enforcement through classroom sessions and participation in exercises covering a range of topics. Ongoing education helps people improve their critical thinking and communication skills while generating new ideas and perspectives."
The program will collaborate with criminal justice programs through Eastern Illinois University, Governors State University, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and Western Illinois University to offer credit toward a bachelor's degree.
