A Winter Weather Advisory is posted for much of southern Illinois and southeast Missouri for New Year's Eve into New Year's Day, but that may not be the last of potentially dangerous weather.

The National Weather Service in Paducah says the Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 9:00am Friday morning, as temperatures hold stead around the freezing mark overnight. A tenth of an inch of ice accumulation is possible in the overnight hours.

After dawn, forecasters say the precipitation will switch back over to rain. Isolated strong to severe storms are possible, mainly in the Pennyrile region of western Kentucky.
