Tuesday the Carbondale City Council will discuss the expansion of the city’s TIF district.
After four public meetings the city of Carbondale made some changes to the purposed expansion of the TIF #2 district.
The city wants the expansion to stimulate redevelopment by offering incentives to property owners.
The boundaries have been extended and the area included has doubled.
Arbor District Neighborhood Association Secretary Jane Adams says at their neighborhood meeting they felt the properties between Main Street and Walnut Street should be included as well.
“We thought those streets are really at risk because they have a lot of it there in the historic district and so if the aim of the TIF is to convert rentals to owner occupied or to at least clean them, you know, make them higher quality properties, those should be included.”
The city council meeting starts at 6pm Tuesday night.
