A deer sighting led to a fatal crash early Tuesday morning on Interstate 57 in Williamson County.

The Illinois State Police reports 41-year-old David Vaughn from Fairfield was driving north on I-57 near milepost 52 when a deer ran onto the roadway.

Vaughn served to avoid the deer and drifted off the pavement. He over-corrected and lost control of his tractor-trailer, it rolled on to the passenger side and came to rest in the center median across the traffic lanes of northbound I-57.

Due to the pre-dawn darkness, a 56-year-old man from Kevil, Kentucky did not see Vaughn's crash in time to avoid a collision. His Peterbilt truck hit the underside of Vaughn's semi-trailer.

The Kentucky man was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Vaughn was not injured.
