Carbondale police officers responded to the 500 block of East Main Street in reference to a report of a single-vehicle traffic crash. Yesterday (Wednesday) just after 10am, officers found a vehicle that left the roadway and struck a utility pole. The driver was found to be unresponsive and officers began life-saving efforts. The driver was transported by ambulance to the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale but did not survive.

The identity of the driver is not being released at this time until notifications to the family can be made. The driver was alone in the vehicle and no one else was injured as a result of the crash. The preliminary cause of death is being attributed to a medical event prior to the crash. No additional details of the crash have yet been released. The investigation is active and ongoing.
