Carbondale Police warn of the possible impersonation of an officer occurred at 12am Tuesday.

Officers responded to the 400 block of West Main Street regarding suspicious activity. According to the caller, a male was noticed outside their apartment, standing on the porch. When the caller opened the door to see who it was, the man identified himself as a Carbondale Police Officer. Without further explanation, the male turned and walked away, saying he was calling for backup. The male left the area in a dark-colored Jeep Cherokee that had lights on the top of the vehicle. The male was described as a white male around 5'10, approximately 50 years old with grey hair and a grey beard. He was wearing blue pants, a blue collared shirt, and a vest.

The Carbondale Police Department has no record of any officers in the area at that time and has not identified any other agencies who reported having officers in that area. This is the only incident of possible impersonation of a Carbondale police officer that is currently reported.

If anyone is uncertain about the identity of a purported law enforcement officer in the City of Carbondale, please contact the Carbondale Police Department for verification. The investigation is active and ongoing.
