Mount Vernon, IL – A trial is under way in southern Illinois for a 19-year-old man who prosecutors say was driving under the influence when he was involved in a 2006 wreck that killed another man.
Steven Hanner was 16 at the time of the crash and is being tried as an adult in Jefferson County on charges of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Drugs and Possession of Marijuana.
Authorities say Hanner's vehicle entered the path of a motorcycle driven by Ronald Hale of Waltonville in June 2006. Hale later died.
Court documents allege that toxicology reports revealed six different drugs were in Hanner's system at the time of the accident, including marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamine.
Hanner has pleaded not guilty and is free on $75,000 bond.
