Red Cross highlights volunteers during Red Cross month

This is Red Cross month and the group's Joe Zydlo says while the Red Cross plays a crucial role in keeping hospitals stocked with blood, he says, the group also helps in other ways.

"We do a lot of health and safety classes, we're getting ready for some life-guarding classes, CPR is obviously very important. We have the Sound the Alarm, smoke alarm program that we will be getting out into underserved communuties that need smoke alarms."

Zydlo stresses the Red Cross is needing to build up the blood supply ahead of the summer driving season, and says you can use the blood donor app on your smart phone to make your appointment and save some time when you get to the donation site.
