A south-central Illinois lawmaker is calling on local schools to oppose National Sex Education standards.
The Illinois State Board of Education has filed new rules with the Secretary of State on the adoption of the new standards.
But, Republican State Representative Adam Niemerg of Dieterich says local school boards do not have to comply with these standards because there is no law requiring schools to teach sex education.
Niemerg has long been an opponent of the legislation, which required the state board to adopt the National Sex Education standards.
