Shawnee Community College earns high marks for vocational education

USA Today released their inaugural rankings of vocational schools across America.

Shawnee Community College earned a five star ranking. These rankings are meant to help students find a vocational program that's right for them.

Kristin Shelby, the Dean of Transfer and Adult Education at Shawnee Community College lists some of their career based programs. Add to that the programs they offer in the health fields of nursing, occupational therapy assistants, medical billing, and phlebotomy.

Shawnee's grown their programs to meet the way she's seen students evolving approach to higher education. They recently unveiled their new competency based welding program provides this flexibility for students.

USA Today recently released their first ranking of America's top vocational schools. They teamed up with market research firm Statista to evaluate the graduation rate, graduates' salary, years it takes to pay off net cost, social mobility and diversity of schools across the country.

Shawnee earned a five star rating in the publication's Liberal Arts and Sciences, General Studies, and Humanities Category.

Olney Central College also earned five stars in the ranking and Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg earned 4.
