SIU finished their second Ag Field Day in Carbondale Friday.
Dozens of farmers and representatives from the agriculture industry gathered at the SIU farms to learn about recent research and innovations in the College of Agricultural, Life, and Physical Sciences.
Rotating through different stations those in attendance heard from researchers on cover crops, water quality and runoff, double cropping and more.
University Farms Director Chris Vick says this research will help farmers better manage their land.
“What we would like the public to take away from this is that farmers are trying to be good stewards of the land and taking nutrient management seriously and we want to make sure that all the nutrients we're putting on our fields and pastures stay in the field, in pasture, not in our waterways.”
This is the 6th year for the ag field day.
