Journey back Inside The Blanket Fort as we remember the works of Milly S. Barranger, who published two books with SIU Press. In this episode we honor her and celebrate her writing and her vital contributions to the theatre world.
Dr. Barranger’s first book with SIU Press was Unfriendly Witnesses: Gender, Theater, and Film in the McCarthy Era. This book examines the experiences of seven prominent women of stage and screen. Her second book was A Gambler’s Instinct: The Story of Broadway Producer Cheryl Crawford. Crawford was notoriously circumspect about her private life, and only in Dr. Barranger’s insightful biography is her full story revealed as a major Broadway producer in an era when women producers were exceedingly rare.
