A bill to sell the Southern Illinois Artisans Center and the surrounding property to the Rend Lake Conservancy District passed out of the Illinois Senate and is now headed to the House for the final vote .
State Senator Dale Fowler says the sale will give the conservancy district the ability to use the currently vacant building and land they otherwise would not be able to use.
He says this sale also benefits Illinois and the taxpayers as the state will no longer be financially responsible for the building, land, and the associated upkeep.
