Jaiden Sanders and Loralei Glueck, both SIU accounting majors, are the 2023 program coordinators for the free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.

A group of specially trained SIU students will be offering free income tax preparation services to community members next month.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is available to any U.S. citizen, whether single or married, as long as their income does not exceed $58,000, and they take the standard federal deduction.

SIU's VITA volunteers will prepare tax returns that involve wages and salaries, interest income, dividends received, unemployment benefits, child tax credit, and much more.

The program begins Feb. 25 and continues each Saturday through March 25 from 9am to 1pm, except for March 18 when there will be no services due to spring break.

There will also be a special session from on Feb. 11 specifically to provide tax preparation for SIU students.

All sessions will be held in the computer lab on the lower level of Rehn Hall.
