Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Illinois celebrates turning 18

The Boys and Girls Club of Southern Illinois is closing, effective this Friday.

A post Wednesday on the club's Facebook page, reports the Board of Directors made this decision after discussing and exploring feasible options to continue the organization's operations.

The post goes on to say the board plans to explore partnership opportunities within the community that will allow for reopening and securing long-term sustainability for the Club.

Leaders say they remain committed to members, their families, and communities who have supported the organization for almost 20 years.

Last month, Boys and Girls Club of Southern Illinois CEO Tina Carpenter resigned after leading the organization for more than five years, and had been a part of the organization since 2009. She oversaw the expansion from Carbondale to Marion and other parts of southern Illinois.
