Starting Thursday new restrictions take effect banning indoor service for restaurants and bars.
This week Governor JB Pritzker announced tighter restrictions for region 5.
Gatherings are limited to 25 people and the region's restaurants and bars have to stop indoor service.
Mary Lou’s owner Marilynn Martin says they’re staying open because they tried doing carry out the last time they were shut down, but ended up closing for 6 weeks from a lack of business.
“It’s unfair that they are targeting just restaurants and bars and they’re not closing down other places that they’ve even stated that are places that have high risk or whatever, but you know people can’t afford to shut down again.”
Martin says she’s heard of other area businesses stating they would stay open as well.
About a third of Illinois counties are under resurgence mitigation orders as of this week.
The city of Carbondale asks that everyone follow the guidelines.
