The Illinois Manufacturer’s Association continued their statewide “Manufacturing Matters” tour Wednesday with a stop in Carbondale.
The Illinois Manufacturer’s Association commissioned an economic impact study on manufacturing in the state that estimated the industry creates between $580 to $611 billion dollars a year.
Wednesday, they stopped at COM PAC International as part of their “Manufacturing Matters” tour.
The company specializes in producing labels and packaging for the medical and food industries.
Chief Operating Officer Gordy Hulten says manufacturing is great for economic development and provides stable jobs.
“There are almost 2000 people supported by manufacturing who generate about $600 million in economic output. Almost 10% of Jackson County's GDP. These men and women earn an average of almost $60,000 in wages, about $101 million total in salaries and benefits.”
The Association says manufacturing supports nearly 30 percent of all jobs in the state.
