According to the Better Business Bureau, keeping your devices clean, organized, and secure helps ensure that important files are safe and accessible. Sydney Waters with the BBB shared organization tips for your devices and on preventing malware and identity theft.

Waters says that creating strong and unique passwords for different accounts is important for security.

"If that password gets hacked, there's a good chance that hackers will try it on other accounts that are linked to you as well. Refresh your passwords, and create really strong passwords for all of your accounts."

As an extra step, enable two-factor authentication. Go through your software, apps, and files while uninstalling ones no longer needed. You can back up files with local solutions like a USB flash drive or to a cloud like Google Drive.

Keep your devices updated to prevent them from cyberattacks. You can adjust the settings on most cell phones and computers to where they update automatically. Install antivirus software. You can search for trusted companies offering these services at BBB.org.
