The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity has released information about this year's Low Income Home Assistance Program, or LIHEAP. This program supports income eligible households with utility costs.
The program is offered through the states Help Illinois Families Program and will be providing $226 million to help eligible households.
LIHEAP provides one-time payments to energy service providers on behalf of recipients. The amount of support varies based on the needs of individual families.
Applications will be accepted from October 1, 2024 through August 15, 2025, or until funds are exhausted.
