Community Colleges through out Illinois are reporting a drop in enrollment due to COVID-19.
Fall 2020 early figures show a more than 13% drop in enrollment at Community Colleges in Illinois.
The means roughly 37,000 fewer students are attending class.
Enrollment for student over 30 declined at double the rate of students under 30.
Illinois Community College Board Chief of Staff Matt Berry says a contributing factor is the adjustments to instruction to stop the spread of COVID-19.
“Most community college programs are online right now and particularly that older population may not have the familiarity and the technological literacy that the younger population may have.”
