The R Buckminster Fuller Dome not for profit organization received a large donation Friday.
In 2002 a group of volunteers formed a not for profit to preserve the Bucky Dome on Forest St in Carbondale.
Since then the group has completed two of the three steps to restore the dome and use it as a museum.
Now, the Fuller family has donated many items that Fuller owned including furniture and more than 3000 books.
RBF Dome President Jon Davey says 500 books will stay at the dome and the rest will be archived at Morris Library.
“Bucky tried to record everything in his life and called it his Chronofile, the Dymaxion Chronofile which is kind of his nickname for his archives.”
Davey says when researchers access the books they will find some surprises in them.
“Being a bibliophile, I think having his volumes and what he read and many of them have his own notations and other people’s notions from books given to him, so it’s kind of special.”
The dome is currently open for tours by appointment only.
