John A Logan College has some new tools for students studying anatomy and physiology.

Starting this spring semester John A Logan College students have the opportunity to train on two state-of-the-art Syndaver Synthetic Human Surgical Models.

They’re a reusable 3D mannequin that mimics living tissue for every bone, muscle, organ and everything else you would find in a human body.

Emergency Medical Services Instructor Leslie McKenzie says the college does not have access to cadavers and until now had to use pictures and diagrams to teach students.

“Having equipment like this will not only help us generate more EMTs, but better qualified EMTs, so instead of their first experience of dealing with areas on an actual human being, they will now have had this Syndaver so that they can do treatments or practice treatments or look at where things are on a mannequin versus their first experience being an actual patient.”

The college was able to purchase the models with a grant from the Delta Regional Authority through the State of Illinois to help increase the number of EMT’s in the region.
