In observance of Attendance Awareness Month this September, the Regional Office of Education (ROE) #21 is raising awareness about the importance of school attendance through its Partners Against Chronic Truancy (PACT) program.
Chronic absenteeism remains a significant barrier to academic success for many students in Southern Illinois.
The PACT program addresses these challenges by providing a proactive, collaborative approach that involves students, families, educators, and community partners.
"Regular school attendance is crucial for students' academic and personal development, yet chronic truancy continues to impact many in our region," said Lorie LeQuatte, Regional Superintendent of ROE #21.
"Our PACT program focuses on eliminating barriers to attendance, whether they involve transportation, family issues, or social-emotional challenges."
Through personalized support and academic interventions, the PACT program works closely with students to help them catch up on missed coursework and regain confidence.
By collaborating with local agencies, the initiative ensures students receive the resources they need to return to school and succeed.
During Attendance Awareness Month, ROE #21 encourages all Southern Illinois schools to participate in promoting daily attendance through various activities and outreach efforts.
“When schools, families, and communities come together, we can create a path for every student to succeed,” added LeQuatte.
