The 101-year-old Carbondale Community High School building on Springer Street was demolished last week. Community organizers and the City of Carbondale are selling bricks from the old building to raise money for the CCHS Foundation.
Dawn Roberts, an event organizer, says the fundraiser has been successful.
"We raised over $2400 in the two hours of the event. The funds are for the CCHS Foundation. They have set up a commemoration scholarship fund for us. The money we raise from the brick fundraiser will go towards a current CCHS student attending SIU Carbondale."
The bricks are available for $10 for the first donation, and $5 for each one after. They must be picked up in person at the event. The second fundraising event will be on Saturday, October 26 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
