Southeastern Illinois College’s Falcon PRIDE program is making a powerful impact just one year after quietly launching. Funded by the Illinois Community College Board, the initiative supports young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities as they transition from high school to independent living and employment.
Participants learn essential life skills like cooking, hygiene, and communication in the classroom, then gain real-world job experience one day each week. Students are matched with mentors and job coaches from SIC, helping them grow with confidence.
Two of the program’s first students, Layton and Alex, are already working in roles they enjoy—ranging from daycare centers to churches. The program is student-centered and personalized, focusing on each participant’s goals and interests.
SIC is now seeking volunteer coaches, local employers, and part-time instructors to help expand the program’s reach.
