Illinois Eastern Community Colleges (IECC) has been awarded a $361,922 federal TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) grant from the U.S. Department of Education to help first-generation, low-income students, and students with disabilities succeed in college.
This marks 32 years of TRIO SSS at IECC, a program that has served more than 6,000 students since 1993. The grant will fund services such as academic tutoring, financial aid guidance, career counseling, mentoring, and transfer assistance, all designed to improve student retention and graduation rates.
“Student Support Services helps level the playing field and equips our students with the tools and confidence to graduate and lead,” said Wain Davis, IECC TRIO SSS Director.
Nationally, students in the TRIO SSS program are significantly more likely to graduate or transfer compared to their peers, according to a 2019 U.S. Department of Education study.
