A traffic stop Thursday afternoon led to the arrest of a Carbondale teenager.
Around 4 p.m. Thursday, a Carbondale police officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 600 block of East Walnut Street. The officer identified the driver as 34-year-old Andre Bailey of Carbondale and the passenger as 19-year-old Saiyan Matthews.

Matthews fled from the vehicle on foot and was captured right away. The investigation revealed Matthews discarded a loaded handgun during the foot pursuit. He is charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Resisting a Peace Officer.

Officers arrested Bailey and charged him with Driving with a Suspended Driver’s License and Possession of Cannabis. He was released with notices to appear in court.
