Illinois State Police have identified the man killed in an officer-involved shooting Tuesday in Carterville.
Investigators say 52-year old Joseph McGrath was killed in the incident.
Police were called to the home at Dobson and Elles in Carterville just before 3:00pm, after a report of a man outside with a gun.
Officers arrived and found McGrath on the front porch of the home with a shotgun. They say they ordered him to put the weapon down, but he instead raised it and pointed it at them. Police opened fire, and McGrath was shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
State Police say the investigation is ongoing, and they're working with multiple agencies to collect information in the case.
