Legislators on the Illinois' Joint Committee on Administrative Rules are questioned a new rule by the Illinois Department of Corrections to combat drugs being sent into prisons.

State Senator Terri Bryant talked with WSIU's Brian Sapp about this new emergency rule.

The IDOC sent a statement explaining they are trying to develop a rule balancing security and personal relationships for inmates.

They say that they've heard the concerns of the Joint Committee and will continue to engage with labor partners, advocacy groups, staff, and other stakeholders.

Brian Sapp joined the WSIU News team in January 2025. He is a graduate of Southern Illinois University.
