A popular former governor is throwing his support behind the republican challenger in a southern Illinois state senate race.
Jim Edgar endorsed Mark Minor in his bid to unseat Democrat Gary Forby over the weekend. The two-term Republican says it’s time for change in Springfield.
Edgar says Minor’s service on the Benton School Board would serve him well as a lawmaker.
“The future of this state depends on a quality education. We’re not just competing with other states, we’re competing with other nations, and education needs to keep up. His experience, kind of on the front-line, being on the school board all those years, I think gives him a lot of insight that most legislators don’t have.
Edgar says there are plenty of challenges facing state government, and although the budget was in crisis when he was in office, he says the problems today are much worse and it’ll take very tough decisions to get things back on the right track.
