Enyart Announces Re-Election Bid

Brad Palmer, WSIU Radio

Southern Illinois Congressman Bill Enyart is seeking reelection.

The Belleville democrat made the announcement during stops Tuesday in Belleville and Carbondale.
Although he's been in office only 10 months after winning the election in November 2012 to succeed retiring Congressman Jerry Costello, the former Adjutant General of the Illinois National Guard says the partisan bickering in Washington is even worse than he envisioned. Enyart says he's dismayed by how many federal lawmakers are more interested in campaigning, and not governing.

Enyart says his mission is to bring an end to the partisan squabbling in Washington for the betterment of the nation. For southern Illinois, Enyart says he wants to provide an equal opportunity for children to receive a high-quality education and then be able to find good-paying jobs to stay in the region.

Longtime State Representative Mike Bost of Murphysboro has filed to run on the republican ticket in the 12th district race. Paula Bradshaw of Carbondale plans to run on the Green Party ticket.
