Chip Markel announces candidacy for Illinois 118th district

Democrat Homer “Chip” Markel talks about his bid for the newly redrawn 12th Congressional District covering southern Illinois.

Navy veteran and Illinois DOC retiree Chip Markel is jumping into the race to unseat IL representative Paul Jacobs.

Markel made the announcement last week. Markel unsuccessfully ran against US Represetntative Mike Bost in 2022.

He says he has formed his campaign committee and will begin circualting petitions in early August.

At the top of Markel's list is to tackle local property tax burdents and to help expand the use of residential solar energy.

He says the residents of the 118th district needs someone advocating for their needs in Springfield.
