Diane Harris is running for the Republican nomination for Illinois Secretary of State.

Diane Harris is one of two Republican challengers for Illinois Secretary of State. She's looking to unseat incumbent Alexis Giannoulias. Harris is currently a business owner in Joliet. Previously, sheworked32 years for ComEd and served as a steward with the IBEW.

Right now, she serves on the board of the Joliet Junior College and is also a trustee for the Joliet Public Library. She's been a Republican precinct committeeman for more than 20 years.

Harris said she decided to run for Secretary of State after receiving support for her conservative platforms in previous elections and wanting to improve the services the office provides, "I think we've gotten away from the government serving us, and I think that that's what we should take it back to. And the DMV service is definitely like I say, organization, governmental organization, that should serve the people and not the people serving them."

To meet these goals, Harris wants to change the appointment process for DMV services. That's something that she says she's heard quite a bit about, "I've gotten a lot of Individuals who are really, really perturbed by the appointment process, and they don't feel, and I don't either, that they should have to drive a, you know, just to get an appointment for a DMV service."

She plans to do this by expanding the Fast Lane service and placing more kiosks in more DMV branches throughout the state of Illinois. Another item Harris wants to tackle is cybersecurity protecting voters' personal data against fraud. Harris's opponent in the Republican primary in March is Walter Adamczyk. He's A Republican committee man in Chicago's 29th Ward.
