State lawmakers are considering a measure regarding sexual assault on college campuses.
Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says it appears that fewer than 5% of sexual assault incidents that take place on college and university campuses are reported to police.
The bill would mandate colleges and universities to have a plan in place for responding to sexual assault complaints and for tracking the response to those complaints.
The attorney general says if this law were enacted, then all students, regardless of the size of the institution or where the school is located in the state, would have resources and would have their complaint taken seriously.
