SIU summer camps are beginning, but this year they’ll look a little different.
When the university made the decision to cancel in-person summer camps at SIU, organizers decided they want to offer area youth some type of camp for the summer of 2020.
This year they’re offering virtual camps for first graders through high school seniors.
Sarah Vanvooren with University’s Conference and Scheduling Services says after creating virtual camps at SIU, they’ll be sticking around.
“Moving forward in the future this is probably something we’ll continue even when we have in-person camps, I really believe we’re going to continue to have some sort of online option to people who can’t make it to campus.”
Programs range from sports, aviation, art, education and more.
Vanvooren says the virtual camps allows campers to attend from anywhere.
