SIU’s School of Education held a pinning ceremony for their graduating Senior’s Wednesday night.
SIU has 38 graduating students this semester who will now be newly licensed teachers.
During their pinning ceremony the students were honored on stage with their cooperating teacher and university supervisor.
Director of Teacher Education Dr. Christie McIntyre says the students start getting hands on experience in area classrooms the start of their third year.
“That's one day a week for the junior year and the senior first semester and then the second semester senior year is when they do their student teaching and they are every day keeping the same calendar and hours that the cooperating teachers keep.”
The School of Education places 300 to 400 students in local schools every semester.
