The SIU School of Law commencement ceremony had an Alumni as their keynote speaker.
SIU Alumni Sameer Vohra graduated in 2011 with a joint Juris Doctor and Doctor of Medical degree.
He also was the founding chair of the SIU School of Medicine Department of Population Science and Policy.
Friday afternoon he returned to SIU for the keynote address to the 2023 law school graduates.
Vohra says he’s happy to return and inspire the next generation of lawyers.
“To be able to shape the law, serve clients and make an impact on public policy. And I'm thrilled to shine a little bit of a light and share some lessons of my own career and how much this place, SIU School of Law, the City of Carbondale, really shaped me and provided me the unique opportunities to serve the state of Illinois.”
In August of 2022, he was appointed by the governor as the new director of the Illinois Department of Public Health.
