Southern Illinois University is adding a new building to campus with a little extra help.

Roger and Sally Tedrick are donating 6 million dollars to SIU to build the new Tedrick Welcome Center.

SIU Chancellor Austin Lane says this building is a cornerstone of the universities Imagine 2030 plan.

"Students from all over the state of Illinois and beyond, that's gonna be the first place that they walk into and experience what it means to be a saluki. When they walk through those doors and see the name over the top of the building, they are going to be able to feel, immediately, what it means to be in saluki nation" Lane said.

SIU Admissions will begin open houses, orientation, and host groups of students at the welcome center. The building will also house the philanthropy center and the SIU foundation offices. Approval of its construction will be on the agenda of the February 8th SIU Board of Trustees meeting.

Roger Tedrick is a member of the SIU Board of Trustees and the SIU Foundation Board of Directors. He is the owner and CEO of Tedrick Group Risk Management Solutions in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Tedrick and his wife are both graduates of SIU Carbondale. He says he knew they wanted to be part of something that would make a tremendous impact. Tedrick says the new Welcome Center will help launch the journey for thousands of Salukis.
