In recognition of Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, a drive is underway at Southern Illinois University Carbondale to collect new or gently used coats, hats, gloves and scarves.

The university’s Higher Education Resources and Opportunities for Salukis in Need (HEROES) program is spearheading the collection, and community members are invited to join students, faculty and staff in making donations. Items may be dropped off through Dec. 18 at the information desks of the Student Health Center or the HEROES Headquarters, located on the lower level of the Student Center. The facility provides a variety of resources as well as support for SIU students.

Items of all sizes will be accepted, and they will go to the HEROES store to be distributed to students who have need of them for themselves or their children.
