The technical and ethical uses of Artificial Intelligence are advancing daily. Society, governments, and scientists are trying to keep up with finding responsible and practical applications. SIU hosted a Large Language Models presentation earlier this month.
Most people interact with Artificial Intelligence through programs like Chat GPT or in their Google Searches. Scientists are looking for new ways to use the large language models that make up AI. Oak Ridge National Laboratory scientist John Gounley is presenting his findings on privacy concerns related to using Artificial Intelligence in healthcare reporting.
This presentation is just one part of an event hosted by SIU's Security, Privacy, and Intelligence for Edge Devices Laboratory.
SIU professors and researchers from across the country made presentations on the uses and issues of AI, both in person and virtually, while also taking questions from students in the audience.
The Lab's director, SIU assistant professor Ahmed Imteaj, says the event is a good opportunity for students to learn how they can use AI professionally.
Imteaj says AI can be used for both positive and negative outcomes.
He says these types of events will help scientists find ways to include these ethical guardrails as they develop new uses for AI in the future.
