The popular Fort Massac Encampment will return to Fort Massac State Park in Metropolis during the weekend of October 21 and 22.
For nearly 50 years, the encampment festival has provided visitors with a chance to experience pioneer life during the 18th and 19th centuries.
From 1757 to 1814, the fort served as a frontier trading post along the Ohio River. Hundreds of re-enactors will play the roles of traders, explorers, settlers, and soldiers from the era. Musical entertainment, blacksmithing, basket-making, weaving, and other activities will be staged on encampment grounds. Food and drink from vendors will be available for purchase.
The event times are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Festival admission is free, and parking is available at the Old Fairgrounds adjacent to the park.
