Carbondale is Shutting Down the Strip for the Off The Rails concert event. It kicks off SIU’s homecoming weekend on Friday, October 11.

Carbondale is Shutting Down the Strip for the Off The Rails concert event. It kicks off SIU’s homecoming weekend on Friday, October 11.

During the event, Illinois Avenue will be closed on Friday, October 11 until 2 a.m., and then again at 9 a.m. on October 12 for the Homecoming parade until 11:30 a.m. Mill Street will be closed starting at 7 a.m. for the parade lineup.

Local bands Jungle Dogs and Modern Day Saints will play on Friday night, with Steve Falat of River Radio as the emcee for the evening. Nearby businesses will hold special deals and events, including Cristaudo's football-shaped cookies, 25% off at the Thrift Shopp on Friday and Saturday, and Chango's offering a free side of queso with every purchase.

Local vendors like Jared Davey with Tree House Printing, Carla's Unique Bling, and Steezy Streetwear will sell their products at the event space.

Visitors are welcome to enjoy public consumption of alcohol purchased from bars in non-glass containers.
