Illinois Joining Forces invites veterans, military members, and families to attend a resource fair and free dinner later this month.
The evening aims to create a space for veterans to discuss personal experiences in a smaller, town hall-style setting while being able to connect with service providers and resources.
Before the meal and discussion, local organizations will participate in a round-table discussion about ways to support military members and their families.
Recent findings from the SIU System Summit Report say that limited access to mental health care, legal assistance, and higher education opportunities impacts veterans the most.
Further, veterans in rural areas are 70% less likely to receive mental health treatment compared to their urban counterparts.
The event takes on Thursday, February 27, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Pavilion in Marion. Admission is free for military personnel and veterans with valid identification.
