JAX Mass Transit provides busing and transit services for all of Jackson County. Last year they began a 12 month comprehensive transit study.
With the study, JAX Mass Transit hopes to improve their operations and address the transportation needs of their users.
They served 200 thousand riders last year. They operate bus routes in Carbondale and Murphysboro
Currently they provide 4 fixed routes covering 100 stops in Carbondale and Murphysboro. They also have services between Carbondale and towns around Jackson County. JAX Mass transit offers two shuttle services. One is a nighttime service between the SIU campus and areas within Carbondale. The other is a shuttle for individuals with disabilities.
WSIU Talked with CEO Shawn Freeman and Christy Campoll of RLS & Associates who is conducting the study. They tell us what they have learned so far. They are also asking residents to attend one of their informational meetings during the week of April 28th to learn about proposed service changes.
