The Du Quoin state fair kicks off in southern Illinois Friday.
Du Quoin fair spokesperson Rebecca Clark says the event runs through Labor Day and includes harness racing, grandstand concerts and plenty of free entertainment.
"Like Zuzu African acrobats, we have Rolo, he's kind of like comedy in a crowd. We also have the Reptile Adventures Show, where you can see quite possibly the largest tortoise you've ever see in your entire life. It is an amazing experience. For anyone who hasn't made it down to Du Quoin, it is absolutely beautiful out here. We have so many great things to offer and I encourage everyone to check us out."
The fair begins with a ribbon cutting and twilight parade Friday evening at six. Retiring State Senator Dave Luechtefeld is the parade's Grand Marshal.
The fair runs through Labor Day.
