Another new poll from the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute shows Illinois voters can't agree on the best way to fix the state's public pension systems.
The pension crisis has Illinois lawmakers and other leaders scrambling to figure out how to fill a nearly $100 billion obligation, as the pension payment is taking up more and more of the state's budget each year.
The survey of 600 registered voters found a majority don't support freezing the cost of living adjustments for retirees, but they were divided over whether or not to cap the salary at which a person could receive the COLA.
The poll, released a day after an Illinois House Leader announced a proposal to make permanent a temporary income tax increase, also shows voters are NOT in favor of keeping that hike in place.
Those questioned also didn't like the idea of increasing or expanding the sales tax base. They were split on the idea of the so-called "cost shift", which would put the burden of paying for teacher pensions on local school districts.
